Beer Box #18November 2021
This month we're bringing you 5 easy-drinking beers, from 3 breweries never before seen in the Birks Cinema beer box. First up is our Scottish beer for this month - Sabro Kölsch from Cross Borders Brewing based in Dalkeith. A bit of an odd combination - a lager made with Sabro hops.
Next up are 2 highly-rated beers from Tap It Brewing Co out of Southampton. Interstella is a citrusy, tropical, hazy, New England IPA, and then a beer for the season - Mad Cow. A sweet milk Stout made with 10 different malted and unmalted grains giving a toasty and chocolatey flavour.
And finally, 2 beers from the renowned North Brewing Co - who helped bring about the craft-beer uprising in the UK by opening the first craft beer bar in Britain way back in 1997. All of a Sudden is crisp, light Table beer, and at 3% ABV it's perfect for a mid-week brew. And finally Open Space - a West Coast Pale Ale brewed with Light Munich, Cara, and Best Ale malt, and surprisingly gluten-free.

We’re tripping back to the West Coast of America in Open Space. A pale ale made with Best Ale, Cara and Light Munich malt to make a crisp and crunchy base with a deep golden hue. West Coast beers are always fun to make as it means we get to play with some of our favourite classic US hops. A steady dry hop of Simcoe and Chinook boasts sticky grapefruit, lemon, floral bouquets and pine flavours with a spiky pinch on the finish. The best part about this beer? - it’s gluten free!

And all of sudden it was October. We’re in the midst of laid back, crisp, hazy and yellow sunlit days and in this Table Beer we reflect exactly that. Barley, Wheat and Chit malt pathe a light and fresh road to a bouquet of tart Gooseberry, tasty zest and squeezed juice of lemons from Nelson Sauvin hops, all punctuated with a clean and crisp carbonation.

Sabro Kölsch is a lager but not quite as you know it. We’ve taken a traditional beer style we love and added a modern twist with the addition of Sabro hops. A warm tropical pineapple flavour will greet you initially and then you’ll be joined by coconut on the finish. A truly unique but wonderful combination.

New Head Brewer; Donncha Burke has given this beer an overhaul. This beer is all about the harmony between hops, malt, yeast and water. Golden Promise as the base malt, a variety that let's the hops sing, with additions of Astra, Citra and Sultana hops providing Citrus,Tropical Fruits and particularly passion fruit flavours. We use a Vermont yeast, to round off the flavour with tropical stone fruit vibes.

This beer has had the recipe overhauled by new Head Brewer; Donncha Burke. Immensely smooth and subtly sweet with a combination of 10 different malted and unmalted grains, it has a complex chocolate and toasty profile.
